Lisa Petrucci

Lisa Petrucci

Lisa Petrucci was born in 1963 in Northeastern Massachusetts. She graduated from Bradford College in 1986 Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Art History and studied Film History and Critical Theory at the New School for Social Research. Lisa became a gallery curator in Portland Maine, Boston, and eventually went to New York City where she was the director of the Pat Hearn Gallery and then Bess Cutler Gallery until 1993. Disenchanted with the contemporary art world, she moved to the west coast where she began writing about exploitation cinema and pop culture. Around this time Lisa also started making her own art and soon became part of the burgeoning Lowbrow art movement. Her paintings have been exhibited and seen all over the world. She’s considered to be a “Pop Surrealist” and has been featured in many diverse publications, including her own deluxe art book “Kickass Kuties – The Art of Lisa Petrucci” published by Dark Horse. She eventually settled in Seattle after meeting Mike Vraney of Something Weird Video and has been working there as a writer and graphic artist since 1994. Her main area of interest and research is Sixties Sexploitation cinema. Lisa and Mike became partners in life and business until his untimely death from lung cancer in 2014. Since then, Lisa has been manning the helm at Something Weird Video and keeping things afloat by partnering with other highly regarded film archives and video companies to help bring SWV to new audiences and genre film fans.
